Meet Your Neighbor: Glenn Austin, Minuteman Press   How long have you been doing business in Gateway? I’ve been working in the district for about 4 years. My wife, who I met in college, has lived in the Portland area for nearly her entire life. She’s the co-owner, so it’s been great to stay involved in Gateway with her! What do you enjoy most about your business? #1 is the people – there is a huge variety of clients that come through our doors. It’s a pleasure to work with customers ranging from local businesses, artists and parents. We recently printed a newsletter for a family that has roots dating back to the American Revolution! I love that I get to work on projects that result in very real products for people. I’m very hands-on, so this fits my working style well. It’s very satisfying to take a blank piece of paper and help a client realize their vision. What are some of your favorite businesses in Gateway? I really like the people over at Cooper’s Auto. They’ve been in Gateway for a long time and are always great to work with. I’ve really enjoyed being neighbors to the people over at Colour Authority, who provide a range of haircare services. And I love the great food in our neighborhood. For Mexican, I can’t get enough of the Arroz con Pollo from El Indio, and for Thai food, I love Siam Grill. What are some of your hobbies outside of your business? When I’m not at Minuteman Press, I’m often reading and writing. I’m a big classical music fan...

Origins of the Gateway Business Area Association

Origins of the Gateway Business Area Association The Gateway Area Business Association was started in 1950 as the Woodland Park Merchants, with 15 charter members. The purpose was to promote the area with services to the community.  One of the first activities was the organizing of a parade in 1951, with eager participation. One of the highlights of the parade was the annual appearance of the Senior and Junior Rose Festival Courts.  The first Fun-O-Rama days were held in 1952, with a carnival used as a fund-raising event. The Gateway Keystone Cops were a west coast-side fun group, appearing in many local and regional events such as parades and other fun-type...
