President’s Message
July President’s Message
Many thanks for grand and successful FUN-O-RAMA events. Just a warning though, next time we wish for sunshine . . .let’s specify under 90 degrees. If I were to name ‘names’ of all the fine folks and businesses who contributed to the Golf-O-Rama, the Parade and the Community Fair at 111th SQUARE, this Newsletter would require more postage.
Without our Sponsors, FUN-O-RAMA would be only a dream. Thank you to our 2008 SPONSORS: The Outlook Community News, Little Chapel of the Chimes, Russellville Park, Realty Brokers, Oregon Baptist Retirement Homes, PGE, Laughlin Insurance, Wells Fargo, Columbia Bank, Warren Allen, LLP, Kevin Minkoff, CPA, Fred Meyer and PacificCorpTheir generous financial contributions provide us with matching funds for grants, fees and expenses and street banners, posters and fliers advertising our events. Thank you also to our event chairs and their committees. As your Parade Chair again this year, all I can say is “Whew!”
The Golf-O-Rama Final Score Card shows we are growing and getting better each year. Our 2008 event featured generous sponsors and outstanding players.
The Fun-O-Rama Parade took on a life of its own this year. Of course, the school bands, Rose Court and Shriners float were huge draws, but what good is a parade without the hundreds of folks who lined Halsey Street: sitting on the curbs, in their lawn chairs, or jumping up and down when they saw the neighbor boy on his decorated bicycle. Though not too many viewers broke Portland’s law to duct tape ‘their’ spot on the parade route, the FUN-O-RAMA Parade is growing every year. Many Parade Participants were delighted to receive a FREE Raffle ticket at the end of the Parade and flooded the Fair after the Parade with their enthusiasm.
Our 9th annual Community Fair at 111th SQUARE was better than ever. GABA’s red, white, blue and green pop-up tents and streamers of brightly colored helium balloons led a festive air to the show. The Fair Committee once again led the charge in organizing a great event, with FREE vendor space to GABA members and FREE admittance to the community.
Gateway Area Business Association is highly visible, representing and promoting local businesses and the community. We accomplish this goal through community events such as our annual FUN-O-RAMA. Since 1950, GABA has led the charge to advance the commercial, economic, financial, and civic interests of the Gateway area. We’re local and we care about Gateway. Tell your friends about our fabulous association and GROW GABA!
