GABA May 19th, 2010 Board Meeting Minutes
ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Lee Powell, Carl Stein, David Panichello, Lou Fontana, Karen Montez, Dawn Rasmussen, Dean Wiest & Mike Wolf. Excused absence: Alan Sanchez.
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 6:05pm.
BOARD MINUTES: It was moved to accept the April 2010 Board Minutes as submitted by Carl, seconded and unanimously approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: It was moved & seconded to approve April/May treasurer’s report and April bank statements as presented by Karen. A couple of member renewals noted in April. Columbia Bank $1,000 sponsorship for Fun-o-Rama Fair reported (Thank-you AJ!). Karen has created a “current member – non-paid” list in Quickbooks to help in reaching out to members during General Meeting reminder calls and follow-up emails & mailers. Lou suggested moving to a monthly auto-pay or PayPal debit system as a flexible option for collection of future dues.
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS: Rosemary Dicandilo - Zero Waste Alliance (June) & John Wade – Center of Environmental Medicine (July) are confirmed as immediate future speakers. Gateway Strategic Vision – member involvement and benefits (August) & Annual Appreciation Fair (September) are on the horizon. Considering John Kitzhaber & Chris Dudley for Governor’s race forum in October. Dean has completed GABA Thank-you cards for our guest speakers (Thanks Dean!). Head count for attendees is very helpful for lunch & beverage preparation. Outpour of gratitude to Lou and Parkview Retirement (PCRC) for continuance of free lunches to GABA Members & Guests. “The Business Association where you can get by on a free lunch”!
2010 FUN-O-RAMA FAIR & CRUISE-IN: Still waiting to confirm a date (Sunday) at Parkrose HS. Confirmation should be made by Monday, May 24th. Tentatively scheduled for June 20th from 11:00 am – 5:00pm). Dean has fully drafted Fun-o-Rama Fair flyers for distribution to members, local business and schools (Thanks Again Dean!). Volunteer sign-up sheets have been issued by Lou in assisting in the full day’s festivities. Parkrose HS is excited to be involved and wishes to coordinate their annual fireworks booth with the GABA Fair.
PUBLICITY: Continuance of reminder calls by the Board is paying dividends. Lee indicated that preparation of swift & timely media & flyer distribution is ready subject to date confirmation of the Fair.
MEMBER RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE (NEW): Lou (busy Lou!) has volunteered to head this new committee in growing our member base.
NEW BUSINESS: Discussion of getting to the core of member benefits through Gateway Strategic Vision – spearheaded by Dawn. Carl suggested that ALL Board Members bring door prizes well in advance (at board meetings) of our general meeting business card drawings. Steve Hoyt-McBeth of Portland Bureau of Transportation was May’s recipient of the “rubber chicken” award at our recent GABA General Meeting luncheon.
