GABA May 20th, 2009 Board Meeting Minutes
ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Carl Stein, Dawn Rasmussen, Karen Montez, Lee Powell & Lou Fontana. (David Panichello & Alan Sanchez – Excused Absence).
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 11:12am.
BOARD MINUTES: It was moved to accept the April 2009 Board Minutes, seconded and approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: It was moved to accept the April 2009 Treasurer’s Report; seconded and approved. Bank statements provided and approved. Waiting for last 3 checks to clear with WAMU to fully close account (Karen to follow-up). It was discussed to form a list of open accounts itemizing unpaid members. A follow-up secondary invoice to be sent to unpaid current members.
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS & MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Jil Zilligen with Zero Waste Alliance and Portland Development Commission is set to discuss grant funding and technical assistance to businesses in URAs through the Sustainable Business Assistance Green Gain Program at the June 11th General Meeting (Dawn to confirm). Future speakers of consideration include John Perkins with Perkins Architecture (past/present building codes) & Anthony Miller with Stepping Stone Solutions (“Selling in a Down Economy”). Amanda Fritz is booked through July, future target for September Meeting. Dawn has volunteered to chair future General Meeting Speaker candidates.
FUN-O-RAMA ~ NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: Lou provided more detailed updates involving GABA’s Fun-O-Rama ~ National Night Out, inked for Saturday, August 15th from 10:00am – 7:00pm. Discussion of charging non-GABA members $75 for vendor booths and $0 to GABA members. It was motioned and seconded to order 100 GABA~National Night Out t-shirts for volunteers and for purchase to GABA-NNO participants. Salvation Army, Snow Cap & Loaves & Fishes have committed volunteers. Discussion of having a donation bin for 2 cans of perishable food for participants. Lou to contact Ed Dahm concerning his convertible club and additional car entries for cruise-in.
PUBLICITY: Discussion of showcasing future GABA events on community bulletin boards, creation of new flyers to distribute at GABA Meetings and current (and future) GABA businesses, local schools and shopping centers (Bi-Mart).
SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE: Calls to past sponsors. Discussion of sponsorship discounts made available to F-O-R ~ NNO participants. $500 banner advertising opportunities discussed. Little Chapel of Chimes to sponsor $1,000 for FOR ~ NNO and Columbia Bank (AJ) committed $500.
NEW BUSINESS: It was discussed to store GABA’s logos in a high resolution format for future printing & promotional needs. Initiate review of local Chamber benefits in contrast to GABA Member benefits to maximize future member growth.
