GABA April 14th, 2010 Board Meeting Minutes

ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Lee Powell, Carl Stein, David Panichello, Lou Fontana, Karen Montez, Dawn Rasmussen.  Excused absence: Alan Sanchez, Dean Wiest, Mike Wolf.

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 7:07pm.  A Special Birthday Celebration was awarded to our dedicated President, AJ Prasad, in the singing of Happy Birthday and the sharing of birthday cake.

BOARD MINUTES:  It was moved to accept the March 2010 Board Minutes as submitted by Carl, seconded and approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  It was moved & seconded to approve March/April treasurer’s report and March bank statements as presented by Karen.  New Business savings account established for David Douglas Music Fund, reconciled & approved.  No new members acknowledged.  Karen working to create lists of new members for welcoming purposes and re-contacting unpaid participants.
 
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS:  Steve Hoyt-McBeth, City of Portland-Transportation is scheduled for May 13th meeting.  Zero Waste Alliance (June) & Commissioner Randy Leonard, City of Portland (July) are confirmed as immediate future general meeting speakers.  Dawn coordinating “Gateway Strategic Vision” formatted event for September.  Waiting for May primaries in coordination of a Candidates Forum in October.  AJ & Dean are creating   certificates to be awarded to our Guest Speakers as a token of appreciation by the GABA Board and its Members.  Recommended head count for Lou in preparing seating and free lunch & beverages is helpful in his greatly appreciated generosity.  (Thank-you Lou!!!!!)

2010 FUN-O-RAMA & CRUISE-IN:  A change in location for the Fun-O-Rama Fair has been identified at Parkrose High School per Lou.  The cost for rent and associated permits exceeded GABA’s budget in initial planning & location.  An official date yet to be determined will fall on a Sunday most likely in June – Lou is finalizing in coordinating the cruise-in portion of festivities.  Ample parking noted.  Sponsorship & marketing efforts are in preparatory stages awaiting a solidified event date.  Dawn suggested more volunteers & Board commitment in assisting Lou.

PUBLICITY:    Reminder calls to GABA Members are making progress.  Suggestion to contact Debbie at Postal Place with any member contact update (contact person, email, etc…) Total turn-out of 38 people in attendance for April meeting including several new guests.   Dean is working to finalize the flyer for F-O-R Fair.  Lou handling publicity flyers for cruise-in. 

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE:  Letters & mailers will be finalized pending confirmed date of F-O-R Fair.  AJ & Columbia Bank are donating funds to help repair existing GABA banners or initiate bids for replacements ~ Dean to assist in cost & graphics consideration.

NEW BUSINESS:  Sponsorship for the David Douglas HS Music Fund is going strong.  AJ to contact US Bank and KeyBank for contributions.  Continue distributing GABA Member brochures to all new guests at Membership Meetings.   Board Members to help encourage people to seat & begin eating sooner at Membership Meetings to keep pace with full agenda timeframes.  David Ashton was April’s recipient of the “rubber chicken” award at our recent GABA General Meeting luncheon

MEETING ADJOURNED:  Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.
