GABA March 17th, 2010 Board Meeting Minutes

ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Lee Powell, Carl Stein, David Panichello, Lou Fontana, Karen Montez, Dawn Rasmussen, Alan Sanchez & Dean Wiest.  Excused absence: Mike Wolf

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 6:02pm. 

BOARD MINUTES:  It was moved to accept the February 2010 Board Minutes as submitted by Carl, seconded and approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  It was moved & seconded to approve February/March  Treasurer’s Report and February bank statement as presented by Karen.  1 new member – Frankie’s Franks acknowledged.  GABA renewals totaling $1,557 reported.  Karen paid GABA’s new business general liability policy premium.  A separate donation account for David Douglas Music Fund Raiser to be opened at Columbia Bank – AJ. 
 
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS & MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:  Verlea Briggs, PGE (energy efficiency for small business) on the docket for April meeting. Steve Hoyt-McBeth, City of Portland-Transporation (May), Zero Waste Alliance (June) & Commissioner Randy Leonard, City of Portland (July) are scheduled as immediate future general meeting speakers.     David suggested having Bob Packwood as featured speaker in November to cover lobbying tactics & efforts on behalf of GABA and small businesses.  Discussion of having a calendar on the website to showcase future speakers 12 months in advance. 

2010 FUN-O-RAMA & CRUISE-IN:  Annual event has been solidified for Sunday, June 6th as Fun-O-Rama Community Fair and Cruise-In from 11:00am – 5:30pm.  Lou updated the Board by requesting volunteers (volunteer sign-up sheet), initiate soliciting businesses in the surrounding F-O-R Fair vicinity and allocate sponsorship opportunities in promoting our expanded GABA event.  Flyers, mailers and proposed new GABA banners are being created involving the efforts of Dean & Lou.  In addition, separate flyers for the cruise-in will be distributed.

PUBLICITY:    Reminder calls to GABA Members from the Board are paying dividends as reported by Lee.  An emailed newsletter to all GABA members highlighting future General Meeting speakers proposed.  Press releases through several periodicals (Oregonian) to promote the F-O-R Fair in June.

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE:  Letters & mailers are being finalized to include separate levels of sponsorship.  Sponsorships for the cruise-in trophies will also be prepared.  Banners for participating businesses proposed for the live music stage at the GABA Fair.

NEW BUSINESS:  Creation of a GABA Facebook account or similar social media page discussed.  “GABA Corner” strip of property considered for additional maintenance and sprucing up.  Dean to report to the Board of future APNBA meetings.  Having GABA applications available at current GABA businesses for potential new business distribution.  Lee noted that we need to have General Meeting door prizes in advance of business card drawings.  Carl was the surprise recipient of the “rubber chicken” award for this past month’s GABA General Meeting luncheon.
