GABA February 17th, 2010 Board Meeting Minutes

ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Lee Powell, Carl Stein, David Panichello, Lou Fontana, Karen Montez, Dawn Rasmussen, Alan Sanchez & Mike Wolf.  Excused absence: Dean Wiest .  Special Guest: Fred Sanchez, Realty Brokers.

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 6:10pm.  AJ welcomed new Board Member & Director, Mike Wolf & Special Guest Fred Sanchez.

BOARD MINUTES:  It was moved to accept the January 2010 Board Minutes, seconded and approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  It was approved & seconded to approve January/February Treasurer’s Report in addition to December & January bank statements as presented by Karen.  2 new members – Farmers Insurance & West Coast Business Community.  Karen re-sent annual dues reminders to all members.   
 
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS & MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:  Kent Lewis, Anvil Media (March), Verlea Briggs, PGE (April), Steve Hoyt-McBeth, City of Portland-Transporation (May), Zero Waste Alliance (June) & Commissioner Randy Leonard, City of Portland (July) have all been scheduled as future general meeting speakers.   Annual Appreciation Fair slated for September 9th at 111th Square.  Governor’s Race ~ forum considered for October meeting. Discussion of showcasing a Gateway Strategic Planning Workshop for November meeting.  Dawn suggested Thank-you cards and/or small token gifts for future speakers.

2010 FUN-O-RAMA & CRUISE-IN:  Annual event is being considered for Sunday, June 27th as Fun-O-Rama Community Fair and Cruise-In.  Parade is removed from festivities due to lack of High School Bands & Rose Festival Court participation on Sundays.  Police & Fire Depts, live bands, rides & games for kids, large scale cruise-in, GABA business booths, various food & handling and community involvement all in store.  Sponsorship opportunities available.  NE Rotary, PGE, US Bank & Fred Meyer confirmed to sponsor.  Flyers to be printed, t-shirts for sale & trophies for cruise-in participant category winners.

PUBLICITY:    Reminder calls to GABA Members from the Board for continued support of General Meetings. 

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE:  Sponsorship letters are being finalized awaiting distribution and growing participation in GABA events and fundraising efforts.

NEW BUSINESS:  Fred Sanchez shared with the Board an update concerning the David Douglas High School Music Fundraiser event.  Hazelwood Neighborhood Assoc., Realty Brokers & Wells Fargo have agreed to sponsor $500 each to the developmental costs associated with CD production & copyright law fees.  John Harrington, former DDHS Principal, is assisting to promote & chair this growing fundraiser.  A Mother’s Day ~ 3-mile Bike Ride event has been scheduled for May 9th from 1:30pm – 3:00pm at 111th Square.  Flowers for Mothers, police attendance & general GABA gathering opportunity for all member participants.  A Special Thanks! by the GABA Board to Lou Fontana, Parkview Christian Retirement Center, for his generosity, support & valued dedication on behalf of  all GABA members and the continued success of our Association
