GABA November 19th, 2009 Board Meeting Minutes

ATTENDANCE: AJ Prasad, Lee Powell, Carl Stein, David Panichello, Karen Montez, Lou Fontana, Dawn Rasmussen & Special Guest ~ Fred Sanchez (Alan Sanchez – excused absence).

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by President, AJ Prasad at 6:10pm. 

BOARD MINUTES:  It was moved to accept the September 2009 Board Minutes, seconded and approved. October 2009 Board Meeting was dismissed due to scheduling conflicts and duly acknowledged & approved by the Board.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  The October Treasurer’s Report was presented by Karen; approved & seconded.  Bank statements were not readily available, AJ to forward September & October bank statements for Board review, reconciliation & subsequent approval.  WAMU/Chase Account to be closed and Letter of Closure to be signed by all Board members.  Remaining funds on deposit to be transferred to Columbia Bank account.  3 new members – Green Business Consultants, Rotary Club & Portland Disposal in October.  Karen to forward annual membership dues to all members in early December noting dues are voluntary however  encouraged. 
 
GENERAL MEETING SPEAKERS & MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:  Cheryl Carter with PGE is confirmed speaker for January 14th (energy efficiency).  Dan Saltzman, Portland City Council is scheduled for our February meeting.  Dawn suggested for the Board to identify & book remaining 2010 speakers in advance.  Specific topics discussed in filling dynamic speakers in the beneficial interests of small businesses and our membership.  “New Year Resolution Business Social” in January in lieu of December Social to allow directed networking opportunities to our members.  New meeting locations were considered for 2010.

FUN-O-RAMA ~ NATIONAL NIGHT OUT:  Awaiting final reconciliation of 2009 event.

PUBLICITY:  Follow-up calls to members as renewal reminders & future meeting reminders.  “History of GABA” brochures marking the tradition & dedication of our association.  Discussion of having networking “Meet & Greets” at different locations of our membership to promote individual businesses.

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE:  Sponsorship letters proposed for distribution.  AJ, Alan & Dawn to help finalize.

NEW BUSINESS:  It was moved & accepted to promote the David Douglas Musical Fund proposed by Fred Sanchez & sponsored by GABA as fiscal agents.  Opportunity for David Douglas HS to record with a live orchestra and distribute live CD’s to the Gateway community in promoting & rejuvenating the DDHS Music Program.  5 GABA sponsors at $500 a piece to offset associated costs (Wells Fargo – PGE – Realty Brokers – PP&L considering sponsorship).   Sponsors receive 100 CD’s to sell and promotional jacket.  GABA to present & dedicate Music Fund proceeds to DDHS.
