Detours During I-84 Nighttime Closures

Interstate 84 will undergo extensive work to repave and repair the roadway on an eight-mile stretch between the I-205 Interchange and NE 181st Avenue.  The work begins at milepost 5.4, just east of NE 82nd Avenue and ends at milepost 13.8 at the 181st Avenue exit. 

Between late April and June, the contractor will close eastbound and westbound lanes for nighttime work a total of 20 weeknights (10 nights in each direction).  The closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays-Thursdays and 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Fridays. The closures will occur only between 82nd and 102nd Avenues. There are no full freeway closures east of 102nd Avenue.

Workers will resurface the road to remove ruts and create a smoother ride on the highway in this section.  They will also repair the concrete barriers between the freeway lanes. 

The first westbound closure is scheduled to occur April 26th.  

During the closures of I-84 between NE 82nd Avenue and NE 102nd Avenue, the following marked detours will be in place.  Message signs will announce the closures.

• Westbound I-84 Detour:  Westbound traffic will be detoured off I-84 onto I-205 southbound at exit 9 and will rejoin I-84 at exit 21B, east of 82nd Avenue.

• Eastbound I-84 Detour:  Eastbound traffic will be detoured off I-84 at the I-205 southbound off-ramp (exit 6), directed to the NE Glisan Street off-ramp (exit 21A) to head east on NE Glisan Street, back to I-205 northbound and then onto I-84. 

The I-84 Halsey Street, northbound I-205 and 102nd exits will also be closed during the eastbound I-84 closure.

• I-84 Eastbound Ramp Closures:  This work affects the I-84 off-ramps at Halsey (exit 7), northbound I-205 (exit 8) and 102nd (exit 9).  Each of these ramps will be closed, at night, for about a week or less for grinding and paving work.  The ramps will be open during the day.  
• Detours:  To reach I-205 northbound, motorists can use the NE Glisan Street off-ramp (exit 21A) to head east on NE Glisan Street and to I-205 northbound. 
• Motorists traveling to NE 102nd or NE Halsey can take NE Glisan to NE 102nd north to Halsey.
